no, that's the fairy tale problem.

sleeping beauty volunteers to be part of an experiment. she's told that on sunday she'll be chemically put to sleep. once or twice, she'll be woken up, asked a question, and put to sleep using an amnesia drug that will make her forget waking up at all.

meanwhile, the experimenters flip a coin: if it's heads, she wakes up on monday and is asked a question only once. if it's tails, they wake her up on monday and tuesday and ask the question. either way, she wakes up on wednesday with no question and the experiment is over.

so every time she wakes up, she doesn't know what day it is or whether she's been woken up before. the question they ask is: what is your belief right now that the coin landed on heads?

so. what does she do?

yeah. she knows all about the coin toss, the schedule, the drug, and the possible results. the only thing she doesn't know is what the coin toss results were.

i see. then she should ask what day of the week it is.

she's not allowed to ask that. come on. the experiment is about probability, not skirting the rules.

she will wake up monday and wednesday regardless of whether or not the coin is heads or tails. the real question is whether or not it's a tuesday. this means she only has a 50% chance of waking up on tuesday. it's more likely that it is a monday or a wedesday, given that these events occur regardless of whether the coin is heads or tails.

good, but she doesn't get the question on wednesday, so she doesn't have to do anything that day. on wednesday she doesn't remember being asked anything at all, just that it happened either once or twice, depending on the coin toss she didn't see. so the other 50% chance has to be monday, right? it's still even.

that's assuming she didn't just sleep straight through monday and tuesday, of course.

so she remembers that it's happened before? how so? how did the drug not erase those memories, too?

no, they're gone. i'm saying she has to believe it happened because she was told beforehand about the experiment. sorry, that one was on me.

anyway, there isn't actually an answer. it's a thought experiment.
